The CAI-K is originated from KFRI's CIU to attaining self-sustainability by making the services available to needed and thereby accruing charges for its facilities.
Central Instrumentation unit (CIU) of Kerala Forest Research Institute (KSCSTE-KFRI) was established in 2006, engaged in providing analytical services to scientific community within and outside KFRI. Presently, this unit is elevated as Centre for Analytical Instrumentation - KERALA by increasing the instrument capabilities and infrastructure facilities, thus ensuring the continued services to research and academic communities. The new centre functions as a collaborative programme of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and KSCSTE-KFRI
In today's world, the scientific improvements depend not only on new ideas, conceptual drives and paradigm changes, but also to a large extent on technological advances that make these steps possible. Scientific research has moved from the conventional techniques to high throughput technologies to decipher the theories and new concepts. Most of these depend on highly complex and expensive instruments or facilities which cannot be afforded by most of the institutions or universities. This essentially pulls back the momentum we require for competing with fast growing modern world. Accuracy of most of the experimental results are based on the analytical capabilities and many a times high throughput experimental designs and data evaluation are required for proper positioning of scientific concepts which can be achieved only through highly sophisticated instrument capabilities. Centre for Analytical Instrumentation - KERALA can provide support to researchers, students, industries etc at nominal cost.
